Inspiration comes upon us at various times, and forms. In 2006, at age 40, I tried my first cup of coffee. It was a latte that my wife suggested. Little did I know then, that the wisdom of her grandfather, passed down to her.
If you add cream and sugar, you don’t like coffee.
She had succumbed to the very thing that her grandfather had warned her, in order to drink coffee you have to add cream and sugar. I quickly eliminated the cream, eventually sugar, and my passion had begun. Who knew that my coffee journey would cause my wife to accuse me of being a coffee snob? Over the years since, I began to make espresso at home, grinding fresh roasted beans, and eventually roasting beans at home.
In the Futur I have become more aware of industry issues such, sustainability, leaf rust, direct trade, and food security. As God has provided, He has guided me to a point where I begin to upgrade my roasting. A gas fired, 2kg drum roaster.
Relationship is so important in all of creation. In fact Jesus said…
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Mat 22:49b KJV
In context, the second most important thing after loving God. In some small way, I hope to love those that bring me the significantly trivial, but overwhelmingly tasty extraction we call coffee.
